Fourth seed Ekaterina Alexandrova and qualifier Wang Xin Yu meet on Thursday at the Tennis in the Land quarterfinals in Cleveland. Ekaterina Alexandrova has played in all three editions of this tournament. She has now set a new personal record here by advancing to this round. The Russian has been in fabulous form and has won both her matches without dropping a set. In the last round, she defeated the qualifier Aliaksandra Sasnovich 7-6, 6-3. She will hope this form continues in her quest for a second tour title of the season. Alexandrova won the Rosmalen Open on grass in June. Sitting in 22nd place in the live ranking, Alexandrova has struggled with inconsistency this year. She has compiled a 28-14 record with nine of her wins coming in 15 outings on hard court. One of her defeats on the surface came against Xin Yu in March.

Wang Xin Yu defeated Alexandrova at Indian Wells by straight sets and will be confident of coming out on top again. With her current form, her chances of winning are pretty high. Xin Yu has won nine matches on the trot. Before arriving to make her debut here, the Chinese number three won the W100 title in Landisville in the ITF circuit. She has ridden that momentum and has dropped just one set in her two matches in Cleveland. To advance to this round, Xin Yu shocked 11th seed Jasmine Paolini by straight sets. That was her 28th win of the season and the 23rd in 34 outings on hard court. It moved her up three places to a new career-high ranking of number 53 in the live ranking. The winner of this clash will play either top seed Caroline Garcia or unseeded Zhu Lin for a chance at the final.
