Sixth seed Ekaterina Alexandrova will seek a second victory this year against Magda Linette when they meet next in Strasbourg. They will battle in the second round with the winner setting up a quarter-final showdown with Madison Keys or Wang Xinyu. Ekaterina Alexandrova defeated Linette in three sets in Adelaide back in January. The win was her second in four previous meetings with the Pole. With her first win in this series coming on clay two seasons ago, Alexandrova will be confident of a win here. The 29-year-old won the only clay court duel with Linette on her way to the semi-finals in Charleston. Alexandrova defeated the qualifier Cristina Bucsa in straight sets in the first round. She lost five games in the contest as she claimed her 13th win of the season to halt a five-match losing run. It was also her first win on clay this year, bumping her up one place to 17th in the live ranking. Alexandrova made the quarter-finals in 2021 which is the last time she participated in Strasbourg.

Magda Linette has also won twice against Alexandrova. Her last win in this fixture came last season in Melbourne. As she has performed better on clay than Alexandrova, she will be confident of retaking the advantage in this series here. Linette has had consistency issues and at present has lost one more match than the 12 she has won. Nine of her wins however have come on clay where the highlight of her season was also achieved. The 32-year-old finished as runner-up in Rouen a month ago with the feat, her first-ever clay court tour final. Linette defeated Sorana Cirstea in straight sets to begin her ninth campaign in this event. The 2021 Strasbourg semi-finalist is now up three places to 47th in the live ranking. Linette has suffered most of her defeats in Strasbourg in the second round.
