21st seed Ekaterina Alexandrova has made a confident start to the new clay court season. In round three of the Madrid Open, she takes on the 14th seed Daria Kasatkina. Here's our match prediction.

The winner goes into the last 16 where they will face either third seed Jessica Pegula or unseeded Moyuka Uchijima. Alexandrova is up to 21st in the live rankings but is doing far better in the WTA Race and is in eighth position.

The 30-year-old has won one indoor hard court title and reached three other semi-finals. Of those appearances in the last four, two have been on clay at Charleston and Stuttgart. Wins on clay this year include beating Jessica Pegula, Mirra Andreeva and Qinwen Zheng.

So far this week in Madrid, Alexandrova has beaten recent Rouen finalist Olga Danilovic in straight sets.

World number 14 Daria Kasatkina is only 23rd in the WTA Race. Now an Australian, the 27-year-old has won 11 of her 20 matches played this year with just one quarter-final reached. On clay courts, Kasatkina lost in round two in Charleston.

This week has seen her defeat Alycia Parks in straight sets. Kasatkina leads her opponent 3-2 in previous meetings but this is their first clay court match.
