Hosts Egypt begin Group G in the Men's World Handball Championships. They take on Chile with the other two countries in the group, Sweden and the Czech Republic playing the following day. Egypt will be super confident of getting their campaign off to a winning start with their opponents favourites to finish bottom of this group. Of the four countries in this group, the top three will progress and the hosts will have no problems achieving that. Their best ever performance in this world cup is a fourth placed finish in 2001. They may not reach that level, but will hope to make the knock-out stages and at least equal the eighth placed finish in the last world cup two years ago. 2019 also saw them finish second in the All-African Games, though they had won the previous four titles. That same year saw their u-19 side become world champions and some of those players may well feature in this event.

Chile are one of the outsiders in this competition. They are likely to finish bottom of this group and be transferred into the President's Cup where the 17th to 24th ranked positions are determined. The last five tournaments have seen that happen, though they were only a place and two points behind the qualifying positions in the last tournament. They ended up 16th in the 2019 world cup, their best ever finish. Chile also finished second in the 2019 Pan American Games but this is a big step up for them.
