Hosts Egypt are still in with a chance of reaching the knockout stages of the 2021 Men's World Handball Championships. They are second in their Main Round group and face Belarus who are one from bottom with two points less than Egypt. The hosts finished second behind Sweden in their preliminary round group. They had good wins over Chile and North Macedonia but then lost by just one goal to the Swedes, despite leading by three at half-time. That saw them qualify and carry through two points. They doubled that total with a win over the Russian National Handball Team. A dominant first half performance saw them lead by seven goals at half-time, eventually winning by five. With group leaders Sweden taking on Slovenia (Egypt's final opponents), a win over Belarus will put the hosts in a great position.

Belarus finished third in their preliminary round group. Their sole win came against South Korea, who lost all three of their matches. A draw was achieved against the Russians, but they lost to Slovenia 29-25. That took them into the main round but with only a point carried forward. Their first match in this group saw them nearly defeat Sweden. They led by four points at half time but ended up drawing 26-26. Their coach Uri Shevtsov admits this will be a tough game and it looks one that will be a close one but Egypt can be backed to get the win.
