Third seeded Felix Auger-Aliassime takes on qualifier Egor Gerasimov in the first round of the Rotterdam tournament. Auger-Aliassime is ranked ninth in the world after beginning the year in 11th place. 2022 has already seen him be part of the Canadian team that won the ATP Cup. He won three of his five matches played that week, losing to Daniil Medvedev and Taylor Fritz. The Canadian made it to the quarter finals of the Australian Open. He led Daniil Medvedev two sets to love before being beaten. Auger-Aliassime was the losing finalist to Gael Monfils in the 2020 Rotterdam tournament. He'll hope to do a lot better than last year when going out in the first round to Kei Nishikori.

Egor Gerasimov began this week ranked 126th in the world. He slipped 22 places in the latest list and had to qualify for this tournament. That saw him win two matches in straight sets, only dropping two games when beating Philipp Kohlschreiber in the final qualifying round. Gerasimov began this year by making it to the last eight of an event held in Adelaide. He had a tough draw in the Australian Open and lost in the first round to Hubert Hurkacz in four sets. The globetrotter next played in India,but lost to Emil Ruusuvouri in the first round. This is only his second time in this tournament, last year he lost his first match to Stefanos Tsitsipas. He's met his opponent on three previous occasions and lost all of them. The most recent was in Melbourne last year but he has taken a set off Auger-Aliassime in the last two matches. Another first round defeat looks likely here, go for Auger-Aliassime to win.
