The New York Rangers head to Canada to take on the Edmonton Oilers at Rogers Place for this Friday night NHL showdown. The Rangers find themselves sitting third in the Metropolitan division with a record of 32 wins, 14 losses and eight overtime defeats for a points total of 72. This gives the Blueshirts a hearty nine point lead over the fourth-place Penguins for the third and final playoff spot in the division. New York has been on a red-hot run of form lately as their current streak of six consecutive wins has seen them shoot up in the standings. The Rangers are in the middle of a three game Canadian away trip with Edmonton being the second stop in their travels. Their first game was against Vancouver, whom the Rangers were able to dispatch by a score of 6-4 on Wednesday. New York has one of the league’s best away records with 16 wins from their 25 games.
On the other side, the home team Oilers will look to put an end to their opponents winning ways. Edmonton is coming off a 5-4 shootout loss at home against the Red Wings on Wednesday and will be desperate to bounce back with a win here to put an end to a two game losing streak. The Oilers are chasing one of the top three spots in the Pacific division as they currently sit fourth with a record of 30 wins, 19 losses and six overtime defeats. Edmonton trails third-place Los Angeles by just one point and first-place Vegas by just four points meaning there is still likely going to be a lot of movement within the standings for that division. Edmonton are on a streak of six wins in their last 10 games but have hit a cold patch of form, losing three of their last four games.
