Edmonton Oilers vs Los Angeles Kings Prediction & Betting Tips - NHL

by Joseph King | in NHL Predictions

A rematch of last season’s first round Stanley Cup playoff matchup sees the Edmonton Oilers hosting the Los Angeles Kings at Rogers Place. Will the Oilers be able to carry over the momentum from that series after they were able to overcome the Kings in a wild seven game series or will LA be able to exact some measure of revenge? Both teams have experienced relatively positive starts to the 2022/23 season with the Kings sitting second in the West while the Oilers are not too far behind in fifth-place.

Edmonton Oilers - Los Angeles Kings: Form Analysis

The Kings 6-5 loss to Calgary in their most recent outing would put an end to their four game winning streak and see their record move to 10 wins, seven losses and one overtime loss on the season – five points behind the first place Golden Knights. The loss was LA’s third consecutive on the road as the Kings now hold an away record of 4-4-1 after they ripped off those four straight wins on their home ice. The books have Edmonton as pretty sizable home favorites here despite the Oilers not having been overly impressive at Rogers Place so far this year. The hosts have just four wins and five losses from their nine games and have been a better road team this year.

Edmonton Oilers & Los Angeles Kings Squad Analysis

The Oilers are now having to deal with injury to Evander Kane following the 31-year-old’s wrist surgery and has left an already thin squad looking extremely vulnerable. Aside from McDavid and Draisaitl, Edmonton doesn’t have a lot else it can call on to produce offense. Due to that fact, the Oilers offense has found it tough as of late, especially in the beginning of games where they have failed to score in four of the last five first periods of play.

Edmonton Oilers - Los Angeles Kings Key Points

  1. The loss to the Flames was the first time the Kings had allowed more than five goals in five consecutive games.
  2. The Kings have had decent success at Rogers Place and won two of their four away games against the Oilers in the playoffs last season.
  3. The Kings are the third highest scoring team in the NHL with 61 goals scored from their 18 games.

Our Edmonton Oilers vs Los Angeles Kings Prediction

We’re going to back the Los Angeles Kings to win this game at an excellent price of well above even money. The Kings have undoubtedly been in the better form of the two teams so far this year and have performed well enough overall away from home despite their current three game road slide. This line looks to be overinflated for an Oilers team that has been below average on home ice so far this year and is dealing with a  key injury to their already thin squad. Look for them to struggle on the offensive side of the puck again while the Kings can steal a victory enough of the time to make this a play at these odds.
