The 9-17-1 Chicago Blackhawks head west to take on the surging Edmonton Oilers who have climbed to 12-12-4 in the standings. The Blackhawks were the winners of the draft lottery and secured the services of Connor Bedard who has made a great impression in his rookie season. It cannot be easy to have the weight of an organisation on your shoulders, especially not at the age of 18 but Bedard has 23 points in the first 27 games of his career. Injury problems have restricted any success for the Blackhawks with former Hart Trophy winner Taylor Hall undergoing surgery and veteran Corey Perry no longer with the team. They are fighting things out for the bottom of the pile again with the San Jose Sharks at present
This home stand has been good to the Oilers, extending their winning run to seven games. They got off to a painfully slow start to the season but things have properly clicked into action now and they are absolutely flying. They are 9-3 since Kris Knoblach got the coaching job with the combination of Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl looking like the dangerous duo they have been for the past few seasons. These seven wins have seen them outscore their opponents 35-12 with McDavid scoring 20 points in those games, taking the team to ninth in the league in goals scored. When they are in this sort of form, they are up there with the very best teams in the NHL and the Blackhawks look unlikely to be causing them too many problems if they play to that level again.
