Edinburgh welcome Premiership Rugby strugglers Gloucester to the Murrayfield Stadium in a Challenge Cup clash slated for Saturday. Gloucester have found solace in the Challenge Cup, topping Group 3 while Edinburgh are second from bottom. By virtue of an inferior points difference, the Scottish side is just out of the playoffs, in fifth place. They are however part of four clubs on five points in the ultra-competitive group that is still wide open. Edinburgh have the group’s second most potent attack with 52 points but a leaky defense has seen them concede an equal amount of points. The hosts kicked off their campaign with a 31-18 defeat to Clermont but swiftly recovered with a 34-21 victory over Castres Olympique. A solid start to their United Rugby Championship season sees them in fifth place. With two tries to his name in the competition, Edinburgh will be looking to Duhan van der Merwe for inspiration.

A win here will see the safe progression of Gloucester to the Challenge Cup Round of 16. The visitors have won their opening two games against Black Lion and Clermont and are on course for a playoff ticket. Away from the Challenge Cup, Gloucester are in poor form, having gone on a nine-game losing streak. This has left them second from bottom in the Premiership Rugby standings, with only two wins against their name this season. Gloucester are coming from a 17-10 defeat to Bath, a game in which they failed to register points in the second half. The visitors will have vivid memories of their 2015 meeting with Edinburgh where they beat them to clinch their second Challenge Cup.
