The qualifier Dusan Lajovic will hope to keep his superb run in Cincinnati going when he faces ninth seed Taylor Fritz on Friday. The winner of this third-round match will play either second-seed Novak Djokovic or world number 211 Gael Monfils in the quarterfinals. Dusan Lajovic is in fine form in this outdoor hard court Masters event.. He has won all four of his matches here starting from the qualifiers without dropping a set. In the last round, he claimed yet another top-10 victory by overpowering world number eight Jannik Sinner 6-4, 7-6. This was the 10th top-10 win of his career and the fourth this season which should have him confident against Fritz. Before this season, Lajovic had never won a main draw match in this Masters 1000 tournament. The Serb has had a topsy-turvy campaign overall with 24 wins and 18 losses. Despite his struggles, he has won one tour title which came on clay in Banja Luka. Lajovic, ranked 51st in the live ranking, defeated Fritz in their only encounter to date which was in Lyon in 2018.

Taylor Fritz is also yet to drop a set in Cincinnati. He has won two matches with the last being a 6-4, 7-6, victory over unseeded Lorenzo Sonego. The American has been in fine form in his return back to hard court which has seen him add to his titles won. He won the Atlanta Open back in July for his second title of the year and was a semi-finalist in Washington. The world number nine however was unable to have a sustained run in Toronto and was eliminated in the third round but did lose to an in-form Alex de Minaur. Fritz has compiled a 44-18 record thus far with the majority of his victories, 28, coming on hard court. He has lost just seven matches on the surface. A one-time Masters 1000 champion, Fritz has won three of his six tour titles on home soil. Last season in Cincinnati, he recorded his best-ever finish here by making it to the quarterfinals.
