Dusan Lajovic attempts to end a run of three consecutive first round losses at Roland Garros. To avoid a fourth, he must beat Roman Safiullin in his opening match of this outdoor clay court Grand Slam. Up next for the victor is a second round match against either 12th seed Taylor Fritz or unseeded Federico Coria. Lajovic is 61st in the live rankings but has had some good performances on clay this year. He reached the last eight in both Buenos Aires and Rio. He did even better in Barcelona with a run to the semi-final. Wins have come over higher ranked players such as Alejandro Tabilo, Arthur Fils (twice), Alejandro Davidovich-Fokina and Ugo Humbert. 

Roman Safiullin is currently 42nd in the live rankings but his best performance in Grand Slams has been on grass at Wimbledon. At Roland Garros, Safiullin had only once played in the main draw before this year. He reached the second round in 2021 but lost in the qualifying rounds in 2020 and 2022. He makes his return to Roland Garros after missing the tournament last year. The 26-year-old reached round two in Monte Carlo but has been beaten in his first match in Barcelona, Madrid and Rome. He did get to the last four of a Challenger Tour event played in Aix-en-Provence. We tip Lajovic to end his losing run at Roland Garros.
