Dominik Koepfer and Nuno Borges, both unseeded, will begin the Los Cabos 2024 campaign with a first-round showdown. The winner will then play seventh seed Max Purcell in the second round. Dominik Koepfer has arrived to defend the 100 points he won in this event last season. The German was a semifinalist here in 2023 in his second appearance. With how strong he has looked to start the year, he will be confident of another deep run. Koepfer, who is coming off a quarterfinal finish in Dallas, has won eight of 10 matches. Nuno Borges hasn’t been assured to start the year as Koepfer has and is experiencing a topsy-turvy season. He has played 10 matches and has his record split down the middle. All five of his wins however have come on hard courts. Considering the Portuguese number one also has a head-to-head advantage over Koepfer, he will be confident of a win. Borges defeated his German opponent last October in the first round in Antwerp. The 27-year-old, who is making his Los Cabos debut, is coming off a second-round elimination at the Delray Beach Open. His struggles to begin the year have seen him continue to tumble down the world rankings. He is now down 12 places to 59th in the live ranking.
