The first round of the ATP Winston-Salem at Wake Forest University sees a matchup between Dominik Koepfer and Constant Lestienne. The winner of this contest will go on to face 11th-seeded Daniel Altmaier in the round of 32. It’s been an extremely strong year for the German Dominik Koepfer up to this point who has made four finals and has two competition wins under his belt. The 29-year-old was crowned champion of the Mexico City Challenger event and the Turin Challenger, as well as finishing runner-up in San Luis Potosi and the Prague 2 Challenger. Lestienne bested Emilio Nava 2-0 in the final to win his first event of 2023. The 31-year-old has suffered a number of first and second round exits in 2023, leading to a 15-22 record this calendar year. His 40.5% winning percentage this year is well below his career winning percentage of 57%. The 105th-ranked ATP player will take confidence from his recent tournament win as well as his improved overall play on hard surfaces. Lestienne sports a career 64% winning mark on outdoor hard courts and a 61% mark on indoor hard courts. He comes into this event riding a five match winning streak and with a 10-9 record on this surface this year.
