Dominic Thiem vs Stefanos Tsitsipas Prediction & Betting Tips - ATP Mutua Madrid Open
by Devesh Jaganath | in Tennis Predictions
Familiar foes Stefanos Tsitsipas and Dominic Thiem will square off for the ninth time in their careers when the pair face off on Saturday in the second round of the Mutua Madrid Open. Ranked fifth in the world, Tsitsipas has looked good on the clay surface this year and comes into this one following reaching the final last week in Barcelona. In that tournament, Tsitsipas overcame several well-ranked players en route to the final, including Denis Shapovalov, Alex De Minaur, and Lorenzo Musetti. He now has a solid overall record of 20-6 and 6-2 on this surface. Tsitsipas trails this opponent 5-3 in the previous eight matches that they’ve played; however, they are 1-1 on the clay, and following an excellent run in Barcelona, the Greek will be confident that he can pull off a win in this one.
Dominic Thiem fell from the top 10 player rankings in 2020 to 111th this year, but following a strong performance in Munich last week, the Austrian is now back within the top 100, currently ranked 93rd in the world. Thiem is a fan of the clay court and has already participated in as many as six tournaments on clay this season, with his best performances coming in Estoril and Munich, where he reached the quarter-final stages in both tournaments. Despite having an underwhelming record of 7-6 for the year on this surface, Thiem has managed a few notable wins over the likes of Ben Shelton and, more recently, Marc Andrea Huesler. In the first round of this tournament, Thiem took on Kyle Edmund and overcame the Brit in straight sts. Thiem beat this opponent on the clay surface once before, back in 2020 at the Nitto ATP finals, and will come into this one hoping he can pull off another victory over the Greek as he continues to work his way back to full fitness.

Our Dominic Thiem vs Stefanos Tsitsipas Prediction
Tsitsipas put on his best showing of the year in Barcelona last week and should carry that same form into this one. Thiem has worked hard to regain his fitness following his wrist surgery, and while he has shown glimpses of his best, a matchup of this difficulty may have come a little too soon for the Austrian. Therefore, our Dominic Thiem v Stefanos Tsitsipas prediction is a win for Tsitsipas.
