Qualifier Dominic Stricker and unseeded Benjamin Bonzi will on Friday square off at the US Open third round. The winner here will play either ninth seed Taylor Fritz or the qualifier Jakub Mensik in the fourth round. Stricker is having the Grand Slam tournament of his life. The Swiss shocked seventh seed Stefanos Tsitsipas in five sets in the last round. The win allowed him to advance to this round for the first time in any major. He is now on a five-match winning streak after starting his second appearance at Flushing Meadows in the qualifying rounds. His success here has been reflected in the live ranking where he is up 26 places to 102nd, a career high. Stricker had lost three matches on the trot before arriving in New York. He has now compiled a 32-14 record with seven of those wins coming in nine outings on hard court. Stricker has won two challenger titles so far in 2023.

Benjamin Bonzi is also through to the third round at the US Open for the first time. He will now target to qualify for the second week of competing in a major for the first time in his career. The Frenchman battled for three hours to get the better of crowd favourite Christopher Eubanks in the last round. The match lasted for four sets as did his opener against Quentin Halys. Bonzi is making his second main draw appearance here and by making it to this round has set a new personal record. Earlier this year, he made it to the third round at the Australian Open. Bonzi has struggled with his form in 2023 and has compiled a 16-17 record. He has had the most success on hard court where 10 of his wins have come. Despite his struggles, Bonzi recorded his first two career ATP finals in the early stages of the campaign. One of those was on hard court. He is up eight places to 100th in the live ranking.
