The chances of Rafael Nadal winning his second US Open title in three years have improved over the past few days. Novak Djokovic is no longer in the tournament and instead of facing the fifth seed in the last eight, the Spaniard takes on 20th seed Diego Schwartzman. Nadal has had an easy route through to this quarter final and only dropped one set (against Marin Cilic) so far. He's relatively fresh too as his third round match was a walkover as his opponent pulled out injured.

Diego Schwartzman is playing in only his third Grand Slam quarter final. One of the previous two was at this tournament in 2017 when losing to Pablo Carreno Busta in straight sets. This year he reached the third round in Australia and at Wimbledon and the second round at the French Open.  He won a hard court tournament in Mexico a couple of months ago but the highest ranked player beaten was 24th. He has only dropped one set in this tournament, that was in his last sixteen winner over the continually disappointing fifth seed Alexander Zverev. Schwarzman has lost all seven of his previous meetings with Rafael Nadal winning just two sets. Go for Nadal to reach the semi-finals thanks to a straight sets win.
