Both of the semi-finals in the ATP clay court event in Cordoba went to three sets. World number 14 Diego Schwartzman attempts to win his first major tournament on home soil and faces Christian Garin. The Argentinian had made it through to the last four without dropping a set but had a tough match against fourth seeded Laslo Djere. Schwartzman looked to be on his way to a comfortable win when taking the first set 6-1. However, he then lost the second set by the same score, before taking the third and decisive set 6-2. He's had success on this surface in the past winning in Rio two years ago and reaching the last four of the Rome Masters, losing but taking a set off Novak Djokovic which is always something to boast about.

Schwartzman takes on the third seeded Christian Garin who is ranked 31 in the world. He had an easy straight sets win in his first match but then had to come from behind to defeat sixth seeded Pablo Cuevas after losing the first set 6-1. Another set was dropped in his semi-final against Andrej Martin (ranked 100th in the world). Again it was the first set that he dropped, winning just two games. He fought back to win the match but can't afford to make another slow start in this match against a much higher ranked opponent. Garin had a poor ATP Cup and lost in round two of the Australian Open (his opponent reached the last sixteen). Schwartzman can be backed to win this match.
