In form, Diana Shnaider will face Fanny Stollar in their first round match at the WTA Budapest Open, also known as the Budapest Grand Prix. It will be the first match between the two players, with Shnaider playing most of her matches on the main WTA tour and Stollar playing mainly on the Challenger Tour. What will be our prediction for this intriguing clay court match-up?

Top seed Shnaider comes into this tournament having lost in the Round of 32 at Wimbledon to Emma Navarro. The American gaining revenge at the All England Club after losing to Shnaider in the semi-finals in Bad Homburg and the final of the Paris 125 in the past couple of months. Shnaider went on to win both those tournaments and defeated Sloane Stephens 6-1, 6-1 and Karolina Pliskova 4-6, 6-4, 7-5 in the opening two rounds at Wimbledon before surprisingly losing to Navarro 2-6, 6-3, 6-4.

Shnaider has won nine of her last eleven games on grass, and on clay, she has won nine of her last 13.

Fanny Stollar, the 25-year-old Hungarian, will have home support in Budapest, but the odds are firmly against her . Ranked 341st in the live WTA rankings (compared to 28th for Shnaider), Stollar has won just four of her last ten games and eight out of 22 matches this year. In contrast, Shnaider has won 31 of 45 matches this year, often against higher-quality opponents, making the contrast in their recent performances easily apparent.

Stollar's last performance saw her lose 6-4, 6-2 to Leyre Romero Gormaz in the Round of 16 at the W75 tournament in Olomouc back in the middle of June.

The winner of this match will go on to face either qualifier Ekaterina Makarova or wildcard entrant Timea Babos in the second round.
