Diana Shnaider faces Ella Seidel in the third quarterfinal match of the Hungarian Grand Prix. Top seed Shnaider is the only seed remaining in the tournament as the other seven have all been eliminated in what has been an open and hotly contested tournament. So will our prediction back the pre-tournament favourite to land the win against the lucky loser from Germany? Let's take a closer look at some of the key data for both players. 

The top-seeded lefty Diana Shnaider comes into this tournament in outstanding form and at her highest-ever ranking of 28th. She has won three events this season: on the hard courts in Hua Hin back in January, then the Paris 125 on clay in May, and followed that with a stunning win in Bad Homburg on grass. She was also a beaten finalist in Charleston back in March.

Shnaider defeated Fanny Stollar 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 in the first round in Hungary and then stepped up a gear in beating Ekatarina Makarova 6-3, 6-3 in her second-round game. She has played Ella Seidel once before at the W25 Antalya event in March 2022, winning that game comfortably 6-3, 6-4. 

Her opponent Ella Seidel is also riding the crest of a wave at the moment. Following Wimbledon, she breezed through the field at the W35 Stuttgart-Vaihingen event, winning it as the top seed.  She then lost a tight three-set clash in Bastad against third seed Tamara Korpatsch before coming through two qualifiers, losing to Gergana Topalova in the second qualifier. However, she earned a first-round spot as a lucky loser.

Luck was on Seidel's side when her first-round opponent, Moyuka Uchijima, retired with the score 6-1, 1-0. In the second round, Seidel faced Anna Bondar and came out on top in a close game 7-5, 7-5. 

The winner of this quarterfinal will face either Rebecca Sramkova or Eva Lys in the semifinal on Saturday.
