Western Province vs Griffons Prediction & Betting Tips - Currie Cup

Week five of the 2024 Currie Cup will see Western Province taking on the Griffons at the Cape Town Stadium on Saturday afternoon. The hosts are third in Pool A and sixth overall, while the visitors are bottom of the standings. Check out our match prediction below. 

Western Province have struggled to find their best form so far in this competition as they enter week five having only managed one win to date. They are now on eight points, already trailing the top four by five points.

Last week, Province made the trip to Loftus Versfeld to take on the Blue Bulls but were outplayed by the side from the Highveld, losing 50-34. To their credit, though, they have taken four bonus points so far in the competition, three of which were for tries scored. 

The side from the Western Cape beat their upcoming opponents home and away last season and are clear favourites this weekend. 

Meanwhile, after finishing rock bottom last season, the Griffons have looked better this year but are still battling to get themselves off the bottom of the table. They have lost all four matches this season and have just two bonus points. 

The most recent of those bonus points came last week, when they came desperately close to upsetting the Free State Cheetahs at home, falling two points short in a 47-45 nail-biter. 

While that performance would have given them some confidence it’s difficult to confidently back the Griffons on the road as they only won one away game last season and are yet to win one this year.
