The 27-13-6 Dallas Stars are on the road to visit the 24-17-5 Detroit Red Wings in the early hours of Wednesday morning. The Red Wings enjoyed a recent road trip with a couple of wins, picking up the two points in seven of their last nine games and one of those losses was in overtime. They had to fight hard to top the Tampa Bay Lightning 2-1 back at home when last playing, climbing past that team in the standings. They were not playing as well as this when they lost to the Stars in Texas in December, that was a loss in the midst of seven defeats from eight games. Three times in their last six games they have only found the net twice, which is below a lot of their offensive output this season, but the defence has started to step up at the same time, which is a huge help to them.
This is the final game of a four-match road trip for the Stars, picking up three points from the first three. It's been an up-and-down trip with a poor performance in Philadelphia against the Flyers before an excellent outing at the New Jersey Devils and then further disappointment against the New York Islanders. One thing that Stars fans can take heart in this season has been the maturation of 20-year-old Wyatt Johnston. He played every game last season as a rookie, picking up 24 goals and 41 points in total which saw him finish 5th in the voting for the Calder Trophy. He has once more been an ever-present this season, notching 28 points in 46 games. That includes four points in his last four games and he will be looking to extend his good run of form.
