Sweden bid to win an Olympic women’s handball bronze medal when taking on Denmark on Saturday. This is the second successive Olympics in which they have contested the bronze medal final but they'll hope for a better result this time around.
Three years ago in Tokyo, they lost to France in the semi-finals and then were thrashed by Norway in the bronze medal play-off by a 17-goal margin. After only losing to France in extra time, they will be hoping to go one better and win their first Olympic medal
Denmark lost their semi-final to Norway by four goals and that ended their dreams of a fourth Olympic gold medal. After missing the last two Games, they have the chance now to win their first medal since the last gold was won in 2004.

Sweden finished second in their Preliminary Round group with eight points from their five fixtures. They made an excellent start to this tournament with wins over eventual group winners Norway and Germany. However, a third straight win didn’t materialise as they were beaten by Germany.
They bounced back well though with wins over South Korea and Slovenia. That took them into the knockout stages and in the last eight, they beat Hungary after extra time. Their semi-final also went into extra time but they eventually lost to France by a three-goal margin.
