Last season she set a career personal record when she advanced to the quarterfinals at the US Open. This is her third season competing at a Grand Slam and in the last two seasons, she was a second-round exit here. Her rise in Melbourne has also propelled her up the WTA rankings. She is now ranked 10th in the live ranking which is a career high placing. Zheng, who has won six of the seven matches in 2024, defeated Anna Kalinskaya in three sets in the quarterfinals. She battled from a set down to secure the victory.
