We'll have an unseeded player in round four of the US Open. Unseeded pair David Goffin takes on Tomas Machac for a place in the last 16 of this hard court Grand Slam. Read on to discover our match prediction.

Former top ten ranked Goffin has been rolling back the years in recent weeks. He reached the last four of a Challenger Tour event and then got to the same stage in the ATP hard court event played in Winston Salem last week.

Before that he hadn't won two successive matches in an ATP Tour event this year. Round one of this tournament produced a straight sets win over 22nd seed Alejandro Tabilo. He followed that up with a four set win over Adrian Mannarino.

Goffin is in the third round of this tournament for the seventh time. The last time he got this far was in 2020 when he went on to reach the fourth round. He's now up to 63rd in the live rankings.

Tomas Machac had played in the US Open three times before this year and never made it past round one. This year has gone much better for him and he's in round three of a Grand Slam for the third time.

The Czech has climbed to 39th in the live rankings and that's only six places below the career-high he achieved in June of this year. He had lost his last three matches before this tournament began, two on hard courts.

Earlier this year, he reached two ATP Tour hard court quarter-finals. This tournament has seen him defeat Fabio Fognini and 16th seed Sebastian Korda, both in straight sets. We tip him to beat Goffin.
