Goffin started the season on a dismal note as he fell in the first round in Brisbane by straight sets to Aleksandar Vukic.

After losing his last two fixtures to conclude the 2024 season, the Belgian has now lost three in a row. He will be keen to stop this run from getting much worse. Goffin, who is ranked 53rd in the ATP, defeated Hijikata last August at Winston-Salem by straight sets.

Rinky Hijikata has been handed a reprieve to participate in the main draw in Adelaide for a third successive time. He hopes to grab the chance with both hands and win his first-ever main draw match in this event.

The Australian had been eliminated from the competition after losing his final qualifying round match. This was against compatriot Adam Walton who earned a 2-1 victory.

Hijikata, who has moved up to 78th in the live ranking, has lost twice in three outings this season. He began the season in Brisbane where he fell in straight sets to Novak Djokovic.
