We'll have an unseeded player in the fourth round of the hard court Shanghai Masters. David Goffin faces Marcos Giron with the winner taking on either second seed Alexander Zverev or Tallion Griekspoor next. Here's our match prediction.

The second half of 2024 has gone well for David Goffin. He was ranked outside the top 100 in June but is now 65th in the live rankings. His improvement in form began on grass with a Challenger Tour title won in England. A hard court semi-final was reached on the same circuit in August and then he hit form on the ATP Tour. Goffin made it to the last four of the Winston Salem Open and then round three of the US Open.

This is his first tournament since that Grand Slam. Goffin has beaten unseeded James Duckworth in straight sets and then knocked out 15th seed Lorenzo Musetti after winning just one game in the opening set. To reach the next round he has to beat Giron for the first time. The American has won both of their previous meetings. They were played on hard courts but the most recent was two years ago.

Marcos Giron is 47th in the live rankings and has won one ATP Tour title this year. That was the grass court Hall of Fame Open played three months ago. Back on other surfaces he hasn't managed to equal that level of achievement.

The 31-year-old lost his next five matches (one on clay) but has finally got back into winning ways in this tournament. He beat qualifier Li Tu in straight sets in round one and then defeated 24th seed Karen Khachanov,without dropping a set.
