Thirteenth seed Daria Kasatkina will meet qualifier Greet Minnen in the third round of the US Open on Saturday. The winner here will face either second seed Aryna Sabalenka or unseeded Clara Burel in the next round. Kasatkina has done well to advance to this round but has looked shaky so far. She has been forced to come back from a set down in both her matches to win. In the last round, she dug deep to defeat Sofia Kenin in two hours and 25 minutes. She is now one win away from equaling her best-ever result here achieved back in 2017. Having defeated Minnen in their only other encounter last season, she will be confident of coming out on top again. Kasatkina has compiled a 31-20 record in 2023 with 13 of her wins coming on hard court. She has however not dominated on the surface and has lost 11 times. The Russian has finished as runner-up twice with one of those finals coming on hard court. She is currently ranked 14th in the WTA.

Greet Minnen has equaled her career world ranking by advancing to this round. The Belgian number two has moved up a massive 28 places to 69th in the live ranking. She defeated the wildcard and former US Open champion Venus Williams by the loss of just two games in the first round. Her second-round showdown with fellow qualifier Sachia Vickery was not as straightforward. Minnen won in three sets with the match lasting for two hours and 13 minutes. The win allowed her to equal her best-ever result at Flushing Meadows. She will now hope to record her best-ever result at any Grand Slam by advancing from this round. Minnen has been in fine form in 2023 though she has played majorly outside the tour. She has compiled a 50-15 record and has won nine times in 13 outings on hard court. The 26-year-old has played in six finals thus far, winning twice in the ITF circuit.
