Seventh seeded Daria Kasatkina faces unseeded Anna Kalinskaya in the Guadalajara Open third round. The winner of this match takes on either Marie Bouzkhova or Liudmila Samsonova in the quarter finals, both of whom are unseeded. This is a WTA 1000 tournament and Kasatkina is in a good position now to qualify for the WTA Finals. Currently, Kastakina is in seventh in the live WTA race, a win here will take her up to sixth. The Russian began this week ranked 11th in the world but is up to 10th in the live rankings and could climb to a career high eighth if winning this match. The seventh seed won a title in Granby in August but hasn't got past the last 16 since. This week has seen her beat Zhu Lin for the loss of just three games.

World number 73 Anna Kalinskaya has already caused one upset this week. Ninth seed Barbora Krejcikova was beaten in the first round in straight sets. It was tougher in the second round as she had to go to three sets to beat Elise Mertens. Kalinskaya won the first set but failed to win a game in the second. She recovered to win the final set 7-5. Her last quarter final was in the Washington Open in August. That was her second of the year, the other being in Guadaljara in February when geting to the semi-final of a WTA 250 tournament. Kalinkskaya must have a love of this city. She might need that as her record against Kasatkina is not good at all. All three previous meetings have been lost with Kalinskaya not winning a set and only three games in the last two. Their most recent match was in Melbourne this year, when Kalinskaya retired in the second set. Back Kasatkina to win this and all but confirm her place in the Tour Finals.
