The tennis world longs to see some new players come along and win Grand Slams. That's gradually happening and both Daniil Medvedev and Stefanos Tsitispas could well win plenty between them in the future. Stefanos Tsitsipas caused a big shock in the last eight when beating Rafael Nadal. He had to come from two sets down to beat the Spaniard and reach his third Grand Slam semi-final and his second in Australia. Tsitsipas had a good start to the new year with two singles victories in the ATP Cup. He nearly came a cropper in the second round of this tournament as he had to go to five sets to beat qualifier Thanasi Kokkinakis. Twice he led in that match, twice he was pegged back before winning the final set 6-4. He had a round off in the last sixteen after his scheduled opponent Matteo Berrettini withdrew injured. Just how he'll recover from his marathon five-setter with Nadal will play a big part in if he can reach his first Grand Slam final.

He faces a tough task up against Daniil Medvedev. The Russian is the fourth seed, two places higher than Tsitsipas and the second highest seeded player in the draw. He has proved to be a major force in the game over the past few months. 2020 saw him win the  Paris Masters and ATP Tour Finals as well as lose in the US Open final to Dominic Thiem. 2021 has been pretty good for him too. He helped Russia win the ATP Cup with wins over three top ten players. This tournament has seen him drop just two sets, both in his win over Filip Krajanovic in the third round.  The quarter final saw him beat fellow Russian Andrey Rublev in straight sets. He has won five of his six past meetings with Tsitsipas and can get some revenge for his loss to the Greek player in the 2019 ATP Tour Finals.
