Top seed Daniil Medvedev has French opposition to beat in his opening match in Marseille. He faces qualifier Pierre-Hugues Herbert for a place in the last eight of the Open 13 Provence. Time for our match prediction.

Medvedev is in this tournament as a wild card and hasn't made the best of starts to the new year. The world number seven lost in round two of the Australian Open to Learner Tien and exited in the last 16 of the recent Rotterdam indoor hard court tournament.

Now he hopes to play better this week which is also an indoor hard court event. The Russian had a poor end to last year and hasn't reached a quarter-final since last September's Shanghai Masters.

Pierre-Hugues-Herbert is the world number 192 (now 162nd) and had to qualify to get into the main draw. He won two matches but needed three sets to get past Manuel Guinard. Round one saw the 33-year-old defeat Harold Mayot in three sets after losing the first.

Herbert has been mainly playing on the Challenger Tour this year with one final reached in Quimper, losing to a player ranked 470th at the time. He lost in the first qualifying round of the Australian Open to 322nd ranked Dane Sweeny.
