It will be an all-Russian affair when Daniil Medvedev and Karen Khachanov meet at the Monte Carlo Masters. These two face off in the first round, with the winner from their ninth meeting facing Alexandre Muller or Camilo Ugo Carabelli. Below is our prediction for the match.

Ninth seed Medvedev is still in search of his first title since 2023. The season so far has had its ups and downs with Medvedev compiling a 12-7 record. He has graced two semi-finals – Marseille and Indian Wells – but that’s just how far he has gotten.

After losing at the first hurdle in Miami, he took a break to prepare for the clay swing and facing Khachanov should be manageable.

Khachanov runs into an opponent he has come to know very well, but unfortunately, one who has dominated him. In the eight meetings between them, Khachanov lost six.

One of his wins, though, was in their only clay court meeting. Khachanov also took a break after Miami and should come here adequately rested after a torrid start to the year.

Defeat against Grigor Dimitrov in his last outing left the Russian on a 5-7 record. Given his poor run against Medvedev, it will take some effort for Khachanov here.

It is further blighted by the fact each of his last four losses were against players ranked in the top-20, where Medvedev resides.
