Top seeded Daniil Medvedev takes on John Isner for a place in the final of the National Bank Open. Medvedev is closing in on the number one ranking and a win here won't hurt him one bit. He's won titles in Marseille and Mallorca this year as well as being the main half of the Russian team that won the ATP Cup at the start of the year. Medvedev hasn't had an easy route to the last four. He had to go to three sets to get past Alexander Bublik in the second round, losing the first set. It was easier beating James Duckworth in the next round but another three-setter lay ahead of the Russian in the last eight. He took on seventh seeded Hubert Hurkacz who beat him in five sets at Wimbledon. This time Medvedev got his revenge but it was a tough match for the top seed. He lost the first set 6-2 and then won the next two, both by tie-breaks.

John Isner is world ranked 30th but a former top ten player. He was as low as 39th earlier this year but has been in good form of late and is up to 25th in the live rankings. Isner got to the semi-finals in Los Cabos and then last week won the title in Atlanta, though he didn't beat anyone in the top 40. This week has seen that good form continue with wins over Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, 13th seeded Cristian Garin (after losing the first set) and then a straight sets win oveR fourth seed Andrey Rublev. Another seed was beaten in the last eight as he beat 11th seed Gael Monfils. He's only had one match against Isner. That was last year and Medvedev won for the loss of four games. This is likely to be closer but Medvedev can get the win.
