Daniil Medvedev vs Holger Rune Prediction & Betting Tips - ATP Monte Carlo Masters

The in-form Daniil Medvedev, seeded third, is on the quest for a fourth ATP title this season but will first have to get past the challenge of Holger Rune (sixth seed) with the two set to face off on Friday in the quarterfinals of the ongoing Monte-Carlo Open. The match will be the first between the two and will be played on an outdoor clay court. The winner will advance to play either seventh seed Jannik Sinner or 16th seed Lorenzo Musetti. Medvedev has been in terrific form in 2023 and has advanced to the final in his last five tournaments winning four with the only exception being at Indian Wells. After a disappointing Australian Open where he was eliminated in the third round precipitating his falling out of the top 10 for the first time since 2019, the Russian has gone on an absolute tear and has won 26 of the 27 matches he has played since. This has allowed him to storm back into the top 10 and is currently ranked fourth in the live ranking. Despite not being a great performer on clay, Medvedev will hope that his form this season allows him to win his first-ever title on clay which is the only surface (of the three main) he is yet to win on. The former world number one struggled to get past Alexander Zverev (13th seed) to book this round as he was forced to come back from losing the first set and needed seven games in each of the following two sets to win 2-1. Medvedev last played in Monte-Carlo in 2019 which also saw his best-ever result here as he made it to the semifinals.

Holger Rune has been unconvincing so far this season but as he is a far much better performer on clay than Medvedev, will hope to use this to get the better of the in-form Russian and kickstart his season. The Dane has lost almost half (7) of the 15 matches he has played this season. This form has threatened to have him drop out of the top 10. He is however up one place in the live ranking to eighth after advancing to this round for the first time in his three appearances. He beat the wildcard Dominic Thiem in the second round in straight sets and was boosted when Matteo Berrettini pulled out of their third-round showdown. This will have him fresher for Friday’s showdown. A win here could send him to sixth which will be a new career high for him.
