Second seed Carlos Alcaraz faces the fourth seeded Daniil Medvedev for a place in the China Open semi-finals. Can the Spaniard record a fourth successive win over his opponent? Here's our match prediction.

Alcaraz is back up to second in both the overall and ATP Race after reaching this hard court semi-final. The 21-year-old has managed to overtake Alexander Zverev to be in second spot behind Jannik Sinner.

Three ATP Tour singles titles have been won by Alcaraz this year. Of those, just the one came in a hard court tournament. That was when he won the Indian Wells title and it was Medvedev who he beat in the final.

Since he lost in the second round of the US Open, Alcaraz has gone on a winning streak with seven wins in a row. This week has also seen him beat Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard and Tallon Griekspoor without dropping a set.

He leads Medvedev 5-2 in previous meetings and 3-1 in matches played on this surface.

Daniil Medvedev last beat Alcaraz last year in the US Open. His only other win over the Spaniard came on grass at Wimbledon three years ago. He's failed to take a set off Alcaraz on hard courts in two defeats since then,

The Russian is yet to win a singles title in 2024 but has reached two finals. Before his loss to Alcaraz at Indian Wells, he was beaten in the final of the Australian Open by Jannik Sinner, both hard court tournaments.

Medvedev is the world number five but a place higher in the ATP Live Race despite his lack of a singles title. To reach this semi-final, he has had wins over Adrian Mannarino and Flavio Cobolli without losing a set. We tip Alcaraz to win in straight sets.
