Daniil Medvedev faces Ben Shelton in the first singles match on the final day of the Laver Cup. He’ll go into this match knowing that Team Europe will be trailing. Here’s our match prediction.

Team World (who are the current holders) ended day two of this Laver Cup with an 8-4 lead. 13 points are needed to be the overall winners. Each match on Sunday gives three points to the winners. This is the second match of the day following an opening doubles match.

Ben Shelton features in that match too as he teams up with Frances Tiafoe to take on Carlos Alcaraz and Casper Ruud. A win for Team World in that match would take them to within two points of victory.

Shelton lost in the singles to Carlos Alcaraz yesterday but has won both of his doubles matches played on Friday and Saturday. This is his first ever match against Medvedev.

His Russian opponent is world ranked fifth and that’s 12 places above Shelton. He’s had one match so far in this year’s Laver Cup and was beaten in three sets by Frances Tiafoe, despite winning the first set.

Tiafoe fought back to level and won the deciding set by becoming the first player to win ten points. Only three players have earned more ranking points than Medvedev in 2024. He’s yet to win a tournament but has reached two finals. We tip him to get the win over Shelton.
