Daniil Medvedev vs Alexander Zverev Prediction & Betting Tips - ATP Indian Wells
by Steve Ashfield | in Tennis Predictions
Daniil Medvedev continues his bid to win a fourth successive singles title. The fifth seed takes on Alexander Zverev (seeded 12th) in the last 16 of the Indian Wells hard court tournament. Medvedev began this Masters event ranked sixth and is fifth in the live rankings. There's a big gap between him and Casper Ruud in fourth. He can't climb any higher than fifth but can close that gap with only one of the top four (Carlos Alcaraz) left in this tournament. Medvedev has won successive titles in Rotterdam, Doha and Dubai and that's taken the Russian to second in the live ATP Race. He's had wins in this tournament over unseeded pair Brandon Nakashima and Ilya Ivaska. Medvedev lost the middle set against Ivashka but only dropped one game in the third. That's extended his winning streak to 16 matches. A win over Zverev will see him face either qualifer Cristian Garin or 23rd seeded Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the last eight and that would be his first Indian Wells quarter final.
Alexander Zverev has only once reached the last eight at Indian Wells. That was two years ago when losing to Taylor Fritz. Zverev started this tournament ranked 14th and remains in that position in the live rankings. He's 26th in the Live ATP Race which is a rise of 18 places. The German is still struggling to achieve the results that saw him ranked second last June. The injury suffered at last year's French Open hasn't helped of course. This year has seen him only get past the last 16 of one event. That was his last tournament in Dubai where he got to the last four losing to Andrey Rublev. In Indian Wells, he's beaten beaten Pedro Cachin and then had to a final set (middle set lost) to get past Emil Ruusuvuori. The pair are level at 6-6 in previous meetings but at one stage it was 4-0 to Zverev. Medvedev has won five of the last six matches but th emost rcent was in 2021 when Zverev got the win in the title decider of the ATP Tour Finals. Medvedev is the clear form pick here to reach the last eight.
