Daniil Medvedev is second in the Red Group in the ATP Tour Finals. He won his first match against Hubert Hurkacz and now takes on the group leader Alexander Zverev. The two players are ahead of Hurkacz and Matteo Berrettini who have no points after the first set of fixtures. Medvedev didn't have it all his own way when taking on Hurkacz. He lost the first set on a tie-break before fighting back to win in three in a match that lasted just over two hours. The defending champion continued his good run and has now won 23 of his last 26 matches. It was also his sixth straight win in this tournament and a seventh will all but see him in the semi-finals.

He's played 10 previous matches against Alexander Zverev and the score is 5-5. Closer inspection of those past results put Medvedev in the driving seat. He lost the first four but since then has won five out of six, including the last four. The most recent meeting was at the Paris Masters and Medvedev only lost four games in doing so. Zverev began this group with a win over Matteo Berrettini. He won the first set on a tie-break but with his opponent 1-0 down, Berrettini retired with an abdominal injury. Under the rules of this tournament, that's been recorded as a straight sets win, which is why Zverev tops the group. Both players are in good form but Medvedev looks the one to back here.
