Third seed Danielle Collins takes on 6th seed Xiyu Wang in the quarterfinal of the ATX Open in Austin. Collins came through her first round game comfortably against qualifier Olivia Gadecki, winning 7-5, 6-3. However, in the second round, compatriot Katie Volynets pushed her hard, winning the first set and pushing the second into a tie-break before Collins took control in the third set to win 4-6, 7-6(3), 6- 0. Collins is currently ranked 48th on the WTA Tour and has been ranked as high as 7th in the past. She's also been continuously improving, reaching the R64 at the Australian Open, the R16 in Abu Dhabi and then the quarterfinals in Doha. She will be looking to go one better here against her Chinese opponent.

Xiyu Wang has made comfortable progress through the ATX Open so far. In the first round against Nadia Podoroski, the Chinese sixth seed won 7-5, 6-4 without being pushed too hard by her Argentinean opponent. In the second round she faced Latvia's Darja Semenistaja and produced an even better performance winning very comfortably 6-1, 6-2. The 22 year old is currently ranked 64th in the world but has been as high as 22 in the rankings and she has been lightly raced at this tournament winning both matches in two sets. She's been very strong when serving, holding 94% of her service games in the tournament so far. However she has converted just 32% of break points, whereas her opponent has been hugely impressive in this regard, Collins winning a break point 91% of the time against her opponents in this tournament.
