Danielle Collins, the 13th seed at the Italian Open, will begin her campaign in the second round against unseeded Anna Blinkova. The winner of this second career meeting between the two will play Caroline Garcia, Renata Zarazua or Elisabetta Cocciaretto next. Danielle Collins is back in Rome after a one-year hiatus. This is her fourth appearance at this WTA 1000 event and she will hope to finally progress past the second round. The American has been in fine form in 2024 which happens to be her final season as a professional tennis player. She has compiled a 28-8 record. This has resulted in two titles, one of which was the Miami Open, her first WTA 1000 crown. Collins followed up her success in Miami with a title run in Charleston. The world number 15 was eliminated in the third round in Madrid last time out to see a 15-match winning run snapped.

Anna Blinkova is nowhere close to having the season Collins is having. She has lost more than she has won and hasn’t made it past the second round in eight tournaments. The Russian however has one thing that Collins doesn’t, and this is the head-to-head advantage in this fixture. Blinkova defeated Collins in their only previous encounter back in 2018. This was in front of Collins’ home crowd in Chicago. She will use this as well as her first-round success as motivation to cause an upset here. Blinkova defeated fellow unseeded player Diane Parry in straight sets in the first round. She lost five games in the contest as she battled to snap a five-match losing streak. Blinkova has also never progressed past the third round in Rome and was a second-round exit last year. She is currently up one place to 45th in the live ranking.
