Jessica Pegula and Danielle Collins will renew their rivalry on Sunday at the French Open. Danielle Collins has played only one match on clay so far this season and lost that tie to Shelby Rogers in Charleston. Last season she struggled on clay and finished with a losing record – three wins and four losses. The American is a decent performer on the surface and will hope her sixth appearance here enables her to turn around her season. Collins currently has a losing record with 10 losses and nine wins from her 19 matches. Her struggles on the court have seen her drop in the world rankings. Collins has been ranked as high as 11th this season in the WTA but arrives at the French Open ranked 45th. Her form does little to strengthen belief that she will be able to claim her first win over Pegula. The two have played each other four times before with Pegula winning all four encounters.

This is the second meeting between Jessica Pegula and Danielle Collins this year. They met at the Miami Open where Pegula won 2-0 in the third round on her way to the semifinals. Of the four meetings between the two, one was on clay, in Charlottesville back in 2016. Pegula arrives for her eighth appearance at Roland Garros in superb form, having won 25 of her 34 matches. She has played one final so far in Qatar and made it to the semifinals in Charleston which is her highlight on clay. Her performances this season have allowed her to strengthen her hold on third place in the live ranking. She is also currently placed at number four in the live race. Pegula recorded her best-ever result here last year, reaching the quarterfinals and will seek to go one better this season.
