Defending champion Matteo Berrettini takes on Dan Evans in the first round of the cinch Championship. Berrettini is the second seed (behind Casper Ruud) for this tournament. Both these players won tournaments at the weekend but it was Berrettini who had the most impressive success. The Italian had been out injured for three months after having surgery. He made his return in Stuttgart and had wins over Lorenzo Sonego and Andy Murray on his way to winning the tournament. Last year, Berrettini won this grass court tournament and also reached the final at Wimbledon. He began this event ranked tenth in the world but will be dropping down the list soon with no points at Wimbledon this year.  Before his injury, the Italian also got to the last four at the Australian Open and his game did improve as the Stuttgart tournament progressed, If he does win this match he'll have a familiar opponent in round two, either Murray (if fit) or Sonego. He's had one previous meeting against Evans, beating him in straight sets in the quarter final of this event last year.

Dan Evans had his victory in the Nottingham Open and he's now 31st in the world, so looking good for a seeding at Wimbledon. The Nottingham Open was a Challenger Tour event and Evans didn't beat anyone ranked in the top 70. He's won five grass court tournaments on the lower level tours but is yet to win one on the main ATP Tour. It should have helped his confidence though but he has a tough draw in the first round of this event. He'll be hoping for more time on court as his Wimbledon record isn't that great and he's never made it past the third round. Evans began this year with a semi-final in Sydney but he's yet to get to a quarter final on the main tour this year. Go for Berrettini to get the win here.
