Jack Draper continues his comeback with an Indian Wells second round match against 24th seeded Daniel Evans. It's an all-British clash and another can follow if Andy Murray wins his round two match against Pablo Carreno Busta. Draper has been off the court with a leg injury since the Australian Open. He'd made a good start to the new year with a semi-final in Adelaide and taking Rafael Nadal to four sets in the Australian Open. He began this Indian Wells tournament ranked 56th after being as high as 38th in January. The first round saw him back in action and Draper had a comfortable win over qualifier Leonardo Riedi, dropping just two games. This is only his second match against Evans, the other being in a Challenger Tour grass court event in Nottingham, England. Evans won in straight sets but Draper was a teenager ranked 571st at the time. A lot of balls have gone across the net since then.

Daniel Evans may be seeded for this tournament but he is not having a good year. Draper has actually won two more matches than his opponent despite this being only his third tournament of the year. Evans began Indian Wells ranked 29th, two places lower than at the start of the year. His opponent was only four years old when Evans turned professional. Evans has only won three out of ten matches played in 2023. He lost two of his three matches in the United Cup but then reached the third round of the Australian Open, losing to Andrey Rublev. He hasn't won a match since beating Jeremy Chardy in the Australian Open second round. That includes a loss to then world number 253 Nicholas Mejia in the Davis Cup on clay. Recent hard court tournaments have seen him lose in Doha and then retire against Borna Coric in Dubai after just four games. That puts him at 112th in the ATP Live Race. Draper can be backed to win this match.
