Daniel Evans vs Ilya Ivashka Prediction & Betting Tips - ATP Monte Carlo Masters
by Devesh Jaganath | in Tennis Predictions
Following two rounds of qualifiers, the ATP Monte Carlo Masters main tournament main draw is now underway. Daniel Evans takes on Ilya Ivashka in the opening round on Tuesday afternoon. Evans is currently ranked 30th in the world standings and will come into this tournament in good spirits following an impressive showing in Marrakech last week. The Brit has been going through a difficult patch on the hard surface since the Australian Open and failed to get past the opening round in any of the five tournaments following his round of 32 appearance in Australia. However, the clay court seems to be exactly what Evans needed as he sprung back to life in Marrakech last week, overcoming Alexei Popyrin and Andrea Vavassori to reach the semi-final before bowing out to Roberto Carballes Baena in an entertaining three-set encounter. While the clay hasn’t always been kind to Evans over the years, he looks like he’s in a good rhythm and will fancy his chances against a lower-ranked player in this one.
Ilya Ivashka has fallen some way from his peak rank of 40th in the world less than a year ago to 75th coming into this tournament. With a record of 5-7 since the start of the year, the Belarusian has found it tough to click into gear in 2023. His best finish to date came at the Indian Wells Masters, where he reached the round of 32, but came up against the in-form Daniil Medvedev, who went on to finish as the tournment’s runner-up. This is Ivashka’s first clay court tournament of the year, though he has already played two qualifying matches on this surface, which would have helped him tremendously. Ivashka outplayed Hugo Gaston to win in straight sets in the first qualifier but didn’t look as good in the second match against Taro Daniel, requiring three sets to overcome the Japanese player (6-4 6-7 6-2). Ivashka has faced Evans twice in the past, losing both times, and while the last match between them may have come back in 2018, the Belarusian will want to get one back over the Brit this time around.

Our Daniel Evans vs Ilya Ivashka Prediction
Despite having the superior rank, Evans comes into this match as the underdog, owing largely to his poor form on the hard courts this year. However, he looked much better last week in Marrakech and will take some confidence in knowing that he has beaten this opponent twice in the past. We fancy an upset in this one. Our Daniel Evans v Ilya Ivashka prediction is a win for Evans.
