Top seed Daniel Evans and alternate Gabriel Diallo will on Thursday meet in the second round at the Surbiton Trophy. Evans started the week ranked 25th in the ATP but after losing 149 points, he is down to 28th in the live ranking. Despite this, Evans started his grass court campaign by winning his opening round match against lucky loser James McCabe by straight sets. The win was his ninth of a difficult season for the Brit who is currently on a losing record. Evans has lost 14 of the 23 matches he has played in 2023. But as he is a decent performer on grass, he will fancy his chances of prolonging his stay past this round.

The win over Broady moved him up five places to 141st in the live ranking, a new career high for him. The winner of this match will play either eighth-seed Christopher Eubanks or the unseeded Jurij Rodionov in the quarterfinals.
