Daniel Evans vs Denis Shapovalov Prediction & Betting Tips - ATP Vienna
by Steve Ashfield | in Tennis Predictions
Denis Shapovalov has been climbing back up the rankings after some good recent displays. He takes on Dan Evans in the quarter finals of the Erste Open. Seeded players who could be faced in the semi-finals are Hubert Hurkacz and Stefanos Tsitsipas. Shapovalov began this week in 19th place but is up to 17th in the live rankings. He'd been as low as 24th after some poor form and losing the points when reaching the 2021 Wimbledon semi-finals. Recent weeks have seen him in far better form though. The Canadian reached a final in Seoul, then the last four in Tokyo and in his most recent event, the quarter finals in Stockholm. His return to form has continued this week with a straight sets win over Jurij Rodionov and then beating the fourth seeded Taylor Fritz (who beat him in Tokyo) in three sets, losing the middle one.
Dan Evans was ranked 26th at the start of this tournament. The British player is in his second successive quarter final. Last week saw him get to the last eight in Antwerp and went a set up on Felix-Auger Aliassime but failed to keep hold of his lead. September also saw him reach the semi-finals of the San Diego Open but he hasn't been getting wins over top players. His last win over a top 20 ranked player was when getting to the semi-finals of the Montreal Masters in August. This week has seen Evans beat Oscar Otte and then finally beat another top 20 player Karen Khachanov (ranked 18th), both in straight sets. Evans leads Shapovalov 2-1 in previous meetings. The most recent match was in this year's ATP Cup with Evans winning in straight sets. Shapovalov is in much better form now and he can win this, possibly needing three sets.
