Daniel Evans vs Ben Shelton Prediction & Betting Tips - ATP Acapulco Open
by Daniel Ngulu in Tennis Predictions
Daniel Evans will seek only his third win of the season when he battles fellow unseeded player Ben Shelton at the Mexican Open. The two will square off in the second round with the winner playing either Matteo Arnaldi or Taylor Fritz next. Daniel Evans is having a disappointing start to the year and this has messed up his rise up the world rankings. The former world number 21 has dropped out of the top 40 and is set to start the week ranked 41st. He has managed just two wins in six outings this year. All six matches have taken place on hard courts. The Briton was last on the court in Los Cabos, a week ago, and was eliminated in the second round. Evans’ struggles this year are a continuation of how he ended the last campaign. He has lost nine of his last 12 matches going back to September.
Ben Shelton is having a way better start to the year and will be confident of making a winning start here. He has done so in his last three events. The American was defeated in the first round in his debut last year and will be eager to not suffer the same fate. He is coming off a semifinal finish on indoor hard court in Dallas. This is his best achievement so far. Shelton, who had his best-ever tour campaign last year, has won six of the nine matches he has played. Four of those victories have come on hard courts but so too have three of his defeats. The 21-year-old is set to start the week down one place to 17th in the live ranking.
