Roberto Bautista Agut thought his time in the 2024 Madrid Masters was over. He lost in the final qualifying round but has been reinstated as a lucky loser. He now takes on Daniel Elahi Galan in the first round of this outdoor clay court tournament. Whoever wins this match will face the 16th-seeded Karen Khachanov in round two. Agut is 85th in the live rankings and lost in three sets to Albert Ramos Vinolas in three sets. Then Daniel Evans pulled out with an injury and he was back in the tournament in which he reached the last four ten years ago. Recent form on clay has seen him ge to the last 16 in both Estoril and Barcelona. 

Daniel Elahi Galan is down to 96th in the live rankings and is yet to reach a clay court quarter-final this year. His last two events in Houston and Munich both saw him exit at the last 16 stage. He played on the South American clay court tour earlier this year. That didn't go too well with his best performance being a last 16 appearance in Buenos Aires after coming through the qualifying rounds. He only made the last 32 in boh Cordoba and Rio. His best performance at Roland Garros is the third round in 2020 but he's not won a match there since. A Challenger Tour clay court event was won by him last year. We go for Agut to make the most of his reprieve and make it into round two.
