Which Daniel will make it into the second round of the 2023 US Open? 26th seeded Daniel Evans takes on unseeded Daniel Elani Galan for a place in round two of this outdoor hard court Grand Slam. The winner will be up against either Jordan Thompson or Botic Van de Zandschlup in round two. Evans has only once reached the fourth round of a Grand Slam and that was in New York two years ago. 2023 began with the British player getting to the third round of the Australian Open. However, at both Roland Garros and Wimbledon, Evans suffered a first round defeat. Recent form has been rather up and down. He won the Washington hard court title and beat two top 20 ranked players that week. Since then, he's lost in his first match in both Toronto and Cincinnati. Five of his last six tournaments have seen him lose in his first match. Which Evans will turn up for this match?

Daniel Elani Galan is ranked 71st in the world and the Colombian is in the main draw of this tournament for only the second time. The other was last year and he reached the third round beating fourth seeded Stefanos Tsitsipas in the first round. This year he got to the fourth round at Wimbledon beating 24th seeded Yoshihito Nishioka. Recent results haven't gone too well as he failed to qualify in Cincinnati and lost in his second match in Winston Salem last week. He's only won two out of eight matches on hard courts this year with most of his year being spent playing on clay. Evans can get a win in this match but we recommend low stakes until seeing how good his form is.
