Daniel Altmaier will face the Monte Carlo Masters veteran Richard Gasquet in the second round. This will be the fourth match between them and will produce the next opponent for Francesco Cerundolo or Carlos Alcaraz. Read on for our prediction.

Altmaier is seeking to reach the third round of a Masters event for the third time in his career. His first round performance will give him the confidence that he can overcome the Frenchman.

The German is coming off a straight-sets win over world number 19 Felix Auger Aliassime. That was his third straight win after starting from the qualifiers. All his previous three matches against Gasquet were on clay.

Gasquet has an edge over Altmaier, with two wins in their three meetings. From the outset, his matches at this event were never going to be devoid of emotions, and he also has the fans’ backing.

Gasquet has already declared he would be retiring later this year and playing in a tournament he debuted at in 2002 evokes all manner of feelings.

Those were served raw when he beat Matteo Arnaldi in three sets in the first round. In this match he will seek something he’s failed at in the last 22 matches. He will be trying to win back to back matches for the first time since September 2024.
